Does the record label give u any guaranteed profit?aren’t u better off w/o them once you get a hit?

Question by Y K: Does the record label give u any guaranteed profit?aren’t u better off w/o them once you get a hit?
aren’t u better off just getting sponsors to pay for it
instead of making it like a business
i would think
the VENUE would help pay for hotel stay, food
etc.
u can easily get screwed
if u sign a record contract
let’s say u work ur butt off
playing all those shows and make just enough to PAY back the label for the advance they gave u
so in the end
ur making crap!
im not writing crap
ur crap a hole
ur stupid
just cuz ur not in that industry

If you don’t like the deal, don’t take it. Anyone who enters into a legal obligation should have proper representation to advise them. If you want to play the label game, you got to play by the label rules. It’s real simple. Many musicians would give their right arm for a label deal or even an agent.

And what sponsors are you talking about? You think you’re going to get Nike without a label or at least an agent.

Don’t go into it alone. get a lawyer who believes in you and your band (if you’ve got one) and have him (or an agent – they are often one in the same) represent you in those areas where you are not proficient (like contracts and spelling) and you can do your thing where you are proficient (music hopefully)
