Does attorney-client privilege protect illegal acts by lawyers?

Question by Pascha: Does attorney-client privilege protect illegal acts by lawyers?
If a lawyer advises a client to do something illegal, is the lawyer protected because none of the records relating to giving that advice can be released in discovery?

For example, if a lawyer for a local government entity says that a contract can just be awarded without bid even if it is over the dollar amount required for bids, and a favored local contractor gerts the bid, is the lawyer immune from prosecution because of the attorney-client privilege?
