Do you think my music manager is pressuring me? what should I do?
Question by Hee R: Do you think my music manager is pressuring me? what should I do?
Please Read everything if you want to help me out with some advice, what do you think is the best for me to do in this kind of situation? I need some adult advice, i am young. I dont wanna lose a great chance here.
Well basically I am a Singer, and in the last 5 months I was referred to by a friend who heard me sing to this manager, he really liked me and started to promote me and pay me all expenses for studio recording etc. But since like 3 months ago, I started to have this problem with my singing in which I stopped breathing properly and got off the habit of singing correctly with my diaphramg for some reason. This for me as an artist has been really frustrating, so I asked him about two months ago and told him about my problem, but I as well suffer from social anxiety/anxiety so he thought that these problems I was talking about with my voice that recently had started, were all games i was playing in my head, and that my voice was fine. But then again, Im the one that knows wether my voice is good or not and how well I can function it, i’m the singer here right. Shouldnt he listen to me a little more? I mean I appreciate everything he has done for me and all the great chances, I mean he waited for me like 2 months with this problem, but it definitely needs more time he doesnt wanna wait anymore, and ive told him I need more time. He said, if we put everything off now that the chances of Sony E. will be off probably, and he would get mad at me if i said this, so i dont know what to do.
I dont wanna ruin my chances, but at the same time i dont wanna mess up bad if i am not capable at this moment with my voice, but wouldnt I miss this chance all together if I went there and did a bad performance with my voice as I am not confident at all due to my voice problem right now, which I need time to fix. I told him I need a vocal coach and a voice therapist and it might take time. but he wants me to do this song in 3 weeks, like now. and i only have very little time to prepare and not sure if my voice gets better. I understand he waited 2 months already, but shouldnt i wait to get better? I just wish he would understand and not be so impulsive about jumping into every opportunity,i know the goal here to make me a famous singer, but things take time dont they? They wont happen overnigh, and sometimes there are situations that occur, but he says my voice is fine and doesnt undrstand why we should put this project on hold now. Another option I have is…should I record the song on 3 weeks and then rest and retrain my voice.I will have time to do it afterwards I know it’s a little complex. if I do this pretty good and get signed then I will feel much better. He is kinda pressuring me a little now to keep going as a Sony label pays from $ 300,000 or below. But the back of my mind tells me I need to be ready so they can see my full potential. I am afraid chances like this dont come everyday, especially with Sony.
Well anyways, now 1 week ago he kept on getting contacts with some of my previous songs that i had recorded for promotion, and they sounded beautiful because my voice was good back then, when I sang properly and with right diaphramg breathing.
Now he got contacts from Sony Entertainment and I am under production with a Sony E. member and we have one song that I have to record, which will determine whether Sony label wants to do a contract with me. And will determine whether other people wanna work with me, too. Great opportunities. I have to record this song in 3 week, but the main thing right now is that i don’t feel ready with my MAIN instrument which is my voice and I feel i have to prepare much more to go back to the way I once was, my voice is not lost but I need to be retrained.
At the same time, I dont want to put everything off and Lose this lifetime chance I have with Sony which is what ive been waiting all my life for, this is a great chance. But I only have 3 week now to prepare for this one song recorded. My manager told me to only record this song and then take a break, that all I need is to get done with this song. I am very excited about all this but frustrated at the same time, because I really want to this if you know what I mean but I dont wanna mess up that I lose this chance. If it were for me I would do it tomorrow!! But I definitely need to retrain, and get with a professional to help me with my voice, as I always sang with my natural voice and not by being trained or anything, just in chorus at school but I dont believe is enough.
What should I do? Should I prepare well and record this song with the odds that Sony will or will not accept me. Or should I put everything on hold until I get my voice better and back on track and wait.
I need advice please!!!!!! help me this is my dream.
I want to do it well, this song.

well sweetie
the thing is you have to be 100% sure on if you got your voice the way you want it to be it’s your decision
If you feel your voice isn’ t strong at this time you should go bye a program like singing success(best) or singoroma(good). Get a vocal coach exercise your vocie. To be extra sure.
Mariah carey had to go to labels and partys to be able to do what she is doing now and she had many years of training.
You got to be 100% sure look nobody wants to be shorthanded you have to be comforable with your voice and self
when you record your song.
Make sure your song goes with your style
don’t go out of your comfort zone
get a higher vocal range
and i’m sure you will get signed
