Question by Deke: Do you feel that MTV is as important to the music industry as it once was?
When MTV launched, it was known for putting faces to the music we heard on the radio. Largely, they played videos 24/7, and helped launch the careers of musicians that might have otherwise never had a shot.
In recent years, MTV plays fewer and fewer videos, opting for low-budget series and their own version of game and reality shows. Add to that the advent of the internet as a powerful medium for music distribution, and one could argue that MTV’s influence on breaking new artists has been diminished greatly.
