Do signed artists have to pay for the production of their own music video?
Question by Tha BFG: Do signed artists have to pay for the production of their own music video?
I heard this from one of my friends, but I’m having trouble believing it. I’d imagine the record company giving the artist a budget of some sort since they’re going to be owning the rights to the video anyway. Anyone who’s very certain, I’d appreciate a response.

The record company considers the cost of making a music video part of the budget allocated for a band, which means it comes out of the band’s coffers. Basically, if a band wants a really expensive video, they’ll get less money, overall. It’s kind of like how if you have a job with health insurance, the health insurance is paid by the employer, but is deducted from what you’d be paid if the company didn’t offer insurance.
