Dal Richards Orchestra

For more than sixty years the Dal Richards’ Orchestra has delighted Canadians with memorable dance music. Dal Richards is a Vancouver native, and even before graduating from Magee High School in 1936 Dal had formed a band and was entertaining at clubs and dances around Vancouver. The Dal Richards’ Orchestra became a Vancouver institution during an amazing five night-a-week 25-year run at the Panorama Roof of the Hotel Vancouver – and 25 years of live CBC National Radio broadcasts from the Roof on Saturday nights. When the big band music business slowed in the late 60’s, Dal returned to school, and received a Diploma of Technology in Hospitality Management from BCIT. A career in the hotel business in Vancouver followed — and as big band swing music regained popularity in the 80’s, so did the Dal Richards’ Orchestra, and the band and Dal have never been busier. Dal’s orchestra can be heard often at corporate events and conventions, community concerts and special occasions like weddings and anniversaries. Dal’s fourteen-piece big band will perform daily again this year at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver, the Dal Richards’ Combo plays Saturday night dinner dances at the Pan Pacific Hotel every two weeks
