Can you get a degree to be a Music Producer?
Question by Beth: Can you get a degree to be a Music Producer?
I’m in High School and I’m thinking in majoring in Commercial Music. I want to be a Producer but I don’t know if that’s something you can get a degree to do or if you have to work your way up doing something else. But what would that be? And if I COULD get a degree to do it, what are the chances that a big record label would hire me? Do big record labels hire college grads?

There is a common misconception as to what a music producer is and does. You need to know truly what a music producer’s role is in the music industry in order to know how to become one.

Also, you should join an online forum for recording geeks like yourself, who can really benefit from other people’s information. Forums are awesome because of that. This one in particular – http://www.audioneeds.com – is filled with tons of pro sound engineers who sit around all day answering questions for people who need help with their recordings… I’m sure it’ll help.
