Can I be sued for ending a lease agreement without forming any contract?
Question by Daivd C: Can I be sued for ending a lease agreement without forming any contract?
I paid for the first month without signing any contract, but my landlords are telling me I have formed a verbal contract. What can I be liable for? On another note they are withholding my possession are they allowed to do that?

Since you paid first months rent a judge in small claims court would look at that as a verbal agreement although since you signed no contract that can’t hold you to it…Really all they can do is keep your deposit, first months rent and charge you the monthly rent until they can lease it again and NO they can not keep your possessions. I would check out the state law for this because some states say a verbal agreement is binding and some say it’s not.
