Becoming A Band Manager?
Question by failurexbyxdesignerxjeans: Becoming A Band Manager?
I’ve always wanted to be in a band, but I can’t play any of the instruments and I prefer behind-the-scenes action anyways, so I thought I’d try band managing. So far, I’ve got a band set up. I’ve got all the members—a vocalist/guitarist, a lead guitar, a bass player, and a drummer. We’re about to start rehearsing soon too. The lead guitarist says he can get gigs easily because he knows people. I’m good at online promotions and I just got this book “Everything You Need To Know About The Music Business” by Donald Passman.
1. What I wanted to know is what are my duties as of now as a band manager?
2. If the band ever got signed, would they be forced to drop me and get a professional band manager or could they keep me?
3. Are there any requirements like degrees to become a band manager?
Thank you!
Oh and any extra advice is welcome!
Specifically, I would like to be my band’s personal manager.
Also, I don’t want to specifically manage bands for a company. I just wanted to manage a band that I created myself.
And so far, I know some guys at a promotional company that may help out if they like the band enough and I’m trying to create contacts with various labels and helping them out any way I can.
Hmm…man that would suck if they dropped me once they made it big. But I’m going to have to trust their word on it and hope all the work that I did to help them will make them want to keep me!

start promoting them. put out flyers, submit tracks to radio stations, find sponsors, gather a street team to get people to like them. no i think they can choose to keep you as manager, as long as you do a good job. i dont think you need a degree but it might be helpful to be good at dealing with money.
