Artist signing these mulit-million dollar contracts and never coming out!!?

Question by VitaminWaterGuy: Artist signing these mulit-million dollar contracts and never coming out!!?
Ok I have a bone to pick with the music industry. Matter of fact all the businesses that deal with the publishing of someone’s material be it a album, a book, a modeling gig whatever but mainly with music. Why do the talented people feel a need to sign with the Dr. Dre’s and the Diddy’s of the world or even sign a deal period? If you have a talent and you can sing, rap or produce why not get out and sell yourself. I see it all the time in the news where a new rapper is mad or upset that their albums will never see the light of day and they have signed to these 3 album deals and they company takes 5 years to drop the first one. Not only have they signed the album they working on away but they have already signed the next one and the one after the next away before they even start on ’em. I am an independent writer and all I pay anyone else to do is bind my material. I do everything else myself so when I see one company not working with me I go to the next and I keep all rights to my material cause I never sign contracts. Is it traditional to sign your own talents away to someone else…why do they do it??
LOL @BigW…your response is just as long!! I agree though. Do things independent myself and would never sign my hard work over to anybody, I might call Dre for a beat but sign to Aftermath or BadBoy or any of them others..hell naw.

i’m a little too inebriated to Read everything so i’ll comment on the 1st couple of sentences, their’s still a misconception that Signing a big contract to big names mean big bucks, what most don’t realize is that going independent will Potential help you Accrue More, than what you would have to spend when you Sign to a Label, the only difference is, is that when you go independent, you Do ALL of your own footwork therefore saving you More money in the long run on a project….But for some having to Leg work is a bit much, so they’ll depend on huge advances from the label that they’ll have to pay back regardless of the number of albums sold, most of the time not even able to break even, with an independent label, the the advances are typically smaller therefore more effecient depending on the blood sweat and tears the artist puts in….a good example is Jim jones, he may not of done huge numbers, but i bet you he makes more per album sold than some of his counterparts
