The name comes from the Italian Saltimbanco “saltare in the bank.”The etymology of the word reflects his associations with acrobatic and “Saltimbanchi”, therefore, were acrobats working as street performers, outdoor, on a platform that allows its audience a good view of theirs performance. The goal was to make people stay more time enjoying their work and thus, contribute at the end of the show with a sum of money. Portrayed by filmmakers like Fellini, and today also associated with the first performance of the Cirque du Soleil — they usually were members of a nomadic group of actors, traveling from one town to another, making displays of circus and comedy. Today, replaced by street performers, we can found them in parks and in the street corners of the big cities around the world, taking advantage of the brief intervals, when the traffic lights close, to present themselves. Having the drivers, who are waiting for the lights exchange, as theirs viewers and not always receptive to the art of the street artists, they have only a few minutes to do their performance and to collect the payment for their work Theirs work however, is not restricted only to short presentations. They dedicate many hours during the day to do their training, so they can present, often flawless performances by an extreme sensitivity.
