Accountant trying to become a Music Producer?
by familymwr
Question by graywolf: Accountant trying to become a Music Producer?
I’m at a cross roads right now. I’m a 2nd year college student and my long term goals in life are to become a “Executive Music Producer”. They have a commercial music program here, but I am worried about job security when I get out of college. Once I’m out I am on my own. No help from parents. I need to choose a business major. Either Accounting, Finance, or Marketing. Right now, I’m leaning toward Accounting because it has the most job security in the market. The only thing I’m worried about is that “will I have the opportunity to be a producer if I have the title of Accountant on my resume. I just wish I knew the steps it would take to reach my goal. I’ve tried looking up famous producer’s biographies, but it didn’t help me. I need advice from someone who knows something about the industry. At least tell me what degree I should pursue.

Hehehehee. I HAVE to STAR this question.. I work for accountant’s and you are talking about two completely sets of personalities! Accountants make bucks BIG TIME! BUT.. they have no personality… won’t you need that for producing? These guys barely produce KIDS! CRIKY! Between these two professions, your choosing has to be DO I DO WHAT I WANT AND LOVE?
OR DO I DO WHAT MAKES MONEY AND BE MISERABLE? Trust me on this one…if you are looking for job security OUTSIDE what you LOVE…fuggetaboutit.
