How should an artist charge for work that will be used by a company on a regular basis?

Question by pmu44: How should an artist charge for work that will be used by a company on a regular basis?
Such as logos, or characters for a comic. Should I ask for a percentage, and if so, how much? And how do I draft a legal contract for such a transaction? Thanks for any advice.
