Hi, I need some help please!
I’m making a contract template, and I need to be able to write a name of a person (and some additional information) on one field, and then have it automatically copied/duplicated into different parts/fields of the file. This way I won’t have to copy-paste the same many times. I need to do this with Word 2007.

What you need is the Developer Tab. They hide it. To get it, click the Office Button, and Word Options button. Click a check in the box next to “Show Developer Tab”.

In the Controls group, you’ll find lots of controls. I still tend to use the Legacy controls (’cause I know how to use them), but the Rich Text and Plain Text controls work well too. Be sure to use the Properties and Design Mode buttons to help name them and put temporary text in the field.

THEN, copy and Paste Special, paste Link, Formatted Text (RTF). That should make them update when they fill in the first one.

I know there’s another way to do it, but damned if I can figure it out. 🙂 If you’re lucky, The Phlebob will answer this question too.

(Thank you, The Phlebob. I’d gotten as far as inserting fields, even Fill-in fields, but I’d never imagined creating custom Document Properties fields. Didn’t even know you could! Brilliant! And, to concur, it shouldn’t be that complicated. Thank you for ringing in.)
