Schools disagree with Gov.’s consolidation push
In a proposal reminiscent of the failed 1985 education reform requiring school consolidations of districts no fewer than 1,500 students, Gov. Pat Quinn attempted to revive the consolidation idea Wednesday. According to the Associated Press, Quinn’s chief of staff Jack Lavin said the number of districts in Illinois — now 868 — “should be down significantly,” without giving specifics.
