Q&A: Help — Question about music industry.?
Question by Nicole: Help — Question about music industry.?
I’ve always been interested in some kind of music career and I’m not exactly sure what to call it/what the correct major would be.
I want to do something like be the one making sure everything goes as planned, like getting the artist to the venue, knowing when they will be there, some sort of promoting maybe, setting up interviews with the artist, etc.
I was thinking this might just be marketing or management if I decided to go with a major in school but i’m not sure! So help me out if you know please. :\

Business manager.
I’d suggest getting degrees (majoring in one and minoring in the other) in music and in business. You’ll stand a better chance if you have degrees in both. But the main thing is to make contacts – you’ll have to find people to manage and represent. You could start out by working in a music school (gives you access to bands, and the teachers usually know a lot of people), or work as a roadie (carry equipment, help with setting things up, etc.). You need to get known in the industry before you’ll get a real job, and you can do this sort of work on weekends or nights while you’re going to school, to get the experience and connections.
