min hyllest til The Monroes / my tribute to The Monroes

NORWEGIAN / NORSK: min hyllest til The Monroes. Dette er min hyllest til 1 av mine favoritter, popduoen The Monroes. ENGLISH / ENGELSK: my tribute to The Monroes. This is my tribute to 1 of my favorites, the popduo The Monroes. The Monroes – Cheerio The Monroes was formed in 1982 by Lage Fosheim (vocals) and Eivind Rølles (vocals and guitars (+ percussion on their albums)). Both from the Oslo-band Broadway News, who’ve had experienced some success between the years 1979-82. Their debut album “Sunday People” was recorded in Silence Studio in Sweden the winter of ’83. Their first single, “Sunday People”, was released in June ’83, on Bahama Records. “Sunday People” was a huge success, it went to the top of the charts and stayed there several weeks. The song was also accompanied by Norway’s first real music video. The album sold over 130.000 copies and stayed in the charts for months. They also won to Spellemannspriser that year, one of them “Årets Spellemann 83”. The duo’s second video, for the song “Arabian Nights”, was played in Marrakech, Morocco, in the fall of 1983. In December ’83 The Monroes signed a contract with EMI International i London. In the beginning of 1984 most of the time was spent promoting “Sunday People” internationally. In the fall of ’84 The Monroes played a concert for Sky Channel in London, which was broadcasted all over Europe. The summer, 1985 they released the first single from the new album “Face Another Day”. “Cheerio” was an even bigger hit
