Belmont University/ Music Business Question?

Question by Megan D: Belmont University/ Music Business Question?
I am planning on going to college to get a music business degree. I want to do tour management and audio engineering. Is music business a good major for tour management? Also, I am thinking about going to Belmont University in Nashville. First off is that a good choice? Next, I heard that there is also a interviewing process, what kinds of things are asked? Also, I don’t play a instrument except I played the clarinet in middle school (I’m a senior now), and I am trying to learn the guitar. Is that a problem?

Sure Belmont has one of the best music business programs in the country and is of course located in a very musical oriented city. For tour management, the degree can help you get in the door, but no matter what you will still need to start at the bottom on a tour to learn the ropes and work your way up (which could be accomplished without the degree). The degree will allow you some flexibility because of your range of knowledge, you could possible work with a small band as their manager and handle a range of things.

Not playing an instrument would be no problem for this degree, its not required at all. I believe you can take some classes focused on engineering at Belmont in conjunction with your MB classes.

Its a popular program so good grades from HS and some previous involvement with music could be good assets to get in.
