When the Amish build houses or barns for their fellow Amish do they have a contract or other agreement? Or is it just expected that the recipients of the new house or barn will reciprocate by providing labor of their own to help build someone else’s house or barn in the future?

It is all done voluntarily; with no contracting. it is a foundation of their beliefs that whenever a neighbour is in need you should give them what you can. There is no expectation of reciprocation.
