I have choral music published but how do I now get directors to buy it?

Question by ChoralMeister: I have choral music published but how do I now get directors to buy it?
I have a lot of pieces published and want to know productive ways of getting choral directors to buy it. The publishing company does minimal advertising so it’s mostly up to me to get sales. I’ve tried flyers, ads in choral newsletters, email updates, myspace, etc and none seem to work too great. Any ideas?
I’m with BMI, have had performances of my pieces, and have never seen any performance royalties. ???

If it is a difficult enough piece, get a local school to perform it for a big choir conference. This way teachers get to hear it, and if they like it, they will possibly buy it. Unfortunately this is the hard part with having a band too. You can have a good group, great music, a great CD, and even a pretty good following but that doesn’t mean that a recording company will notice your or buy your stuff.
