Less Than Jake interview JR the saxophone player from the band Less Than Jake sat down this past weekend in Philadelphia and spoke to me about their new album GNV FLA. Their new album is named after the airport abbreviation codes for Gainesville, Florida. JR talks about the business side of the band and their new record label. Less Than Jake jumped to and from major labels over the last decade and finally decided to start their own record label and hold onto control of all music, merchandise, and live shows. The interview runs just under thirty minutes, but the points he talks about are very important for anyone who is in an independent band. Formed while the entire band was still in high school, All Time Low signed their first record deal in 2004 with Emerald Moon Records. The band quickly released an EP and soon followed up with their debut album The Party Scene. The albums garnered a lot of interest from record labels and shortly before graduating, All Time Low signed with Hopeless Records. In 2007 All Time Low released their second album So Wrong, It’s Right under their new record label. It debuted at #62 on the Billboard Charts and featured the smash single Dear Maria Count Me In.
