LINK: tinyurl.com Leo Sayer (born Gerard Sayer) had a string of highly polished mainstream pop hits in the late ’70s. Sayer began his musical career as the leader of the London-based Terraplane Blues Band in the late ’60s. He formed Patches with drummer Dave Courtney in 1971; Courtney used to play with British pop star Adam Faith. Faith was beginning a management career in the early ’70s, so Courtney brought Patches to his former employer in hopes of securing a contract. Patches failed to impress Faith, yet he liked Sayer and chose to promote him as a solo artist. Sayer began recording some solo material written with David Courtney at Roger Daltrey’s studio; the Who’s lead singer liked the Sayer/Courtney originals enough to record a handful himself, including the hit “Giving It All Away.” Sayer’s debut single, “Why Is Everybody Going Home,” failed to make any impact, yet 1973’s “The Show Must Go On” hit number one in the UK; a cover by Three Dog Night stopped Sayer’s version from charting in the US The following year he released his first album, Silver Bird. LUAN PARLE Luan Parle was born in Wicklow, Ireland in the mid eighties She comes from a musical family. Her father is a musician as are her brothers. Her brother John is the drummer with Irish band Leopold who toured with James brown just before his death and have recently toured with Thin Lizzy. Luan’s confidence as a singer came from the training her father gave to the children who sang at Sunday Mass at her local church Luan’s first recording came in the form of a cassette at age eleven which featured four tracks including two written by the youngster titled “I Look up to the Sky” and “Little Children” – Following on from which Luan released her first album at age twelve appropriately titled “First Impressions” At this point Luan was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. A Nashville scout, attracted by the profile that the now thirteen year old Luan had been building up, offered her the opportunity to head off to the US with a full recording contract Luan’s deal with her parents didn’t stop her playing and performing wherever she could, and settling down to continue writing her own songs.
