If you say that you are against backyard breeding, are you against responsible breeding, too? There are very good breeders out there and I know that there are a lot of back yard breeders, but what certifies breeding as acceptable to you, if anything?
For example, if a breeder gave all parental candidates thorough check-overs, made sure they had all tests (hip dypslasia (spelling, I know) on breeds suseptible to it,
All certificates and papers in order, registered with the AKC,
The dam and sire are both champions
The puppys get all their shots BEFORE allowed to leave their first home
The puppies have dew claws removed
puppies get optimum care
puppies go home after completly weaned and they are ready ( 9 weeks)
Puppies get blanket that smells like their mom, a toy, their health/shot records, lots of information about the best food for the breed, a starter of food, a starter kennel to bring the dog home (will be brought back if they are large breed dogs and have large kennels.)
Adopters must fill out applacation before they are considered to be allowed to by a puppy.
Puppys are never shipped: the adopter must come and get their puppy, then they can meet the puppy’s breeders, parents, and people that have helped to socailize the puppies.
I know i must be forgetting some things, but i just can’t think of them now.
Oh! On the contract, the puppy’s new owner MUST give the puppy back if they can’t care for it or ‘don’t want it anymore’. That ensures that no matter where the puppy goes, it will stay with the origanal family or go back to the breeders; NEVER TO A SHELTER.
The breeder has the genetics and temperment of the dog first in their priorites; they care much more about the dogs, which are members of their family, then money!
Has other breeders backing them up, and knows everything required to breed and raise puppies.
That really is all I can think of at the moment. But, i’m sure their is more on the back of my head.
Still, does that at least a little qualify someone as a GOOD breeder, you think?

I am 100% for reputable breeders. Sometimes a rescue dog is not the right choice, especially for someone like me who wants a working dog; why would I take the chance of having a poorly bred, genetically unhealthy and temperamentally unsound dog from the shelter, when I can have a pup who’s parents have proven themselves worthy of breeding by showing or working, and most importantly, excellent health and temperament guarantees.
