Q&A: What can I use the Cat-5 lines in my apartment for?
Published March 27, 2011
Question by Martino: What can I use the Cat-5 lines in my apartment for?
My 5-room condo came pre-wired with Cat-5 lines. The jacks for it are twinned with the pre-wired phone jacks all over the place. But I don’t know what to do with them. Can I use the Cat-5 lines in place of a wireless router, etc., for computer networking? For stereo music distribution? Or what? Thanks.

For computer networking. You’ll still need a router. There should be a central point where all the wires come out – plug each one into your router, plug your router into your modem, and then you can set up your PCs around the house.
