A Marcus Miller production From Renée’s Solo Album Oasis on Expansion Records 2000 ………………………… Renee met the Phillips brothers in the early stages of their musical careers. Their music took a turn for the better when she joined the Phillips’ band, Licyndiana. Her voice cuts through the air with a magical tone. Her high notes soar through the sky with a chilling presence and clarity. The band knew that she had something great to offer! After many rehearsals, writing sessions and performances, Licyndiana changed it’s name to Starpoint to persue a recording contract and career. Having Renee in the band made the package complete. Starpoint was signed to a Polygram label, Casablanca/Chocolate City Records in 1980. They Recorded four albums with that label. In 1985 Starpoint recorded their seventh Album “Restless” with Elektra/Asylum, a Warner Brothers label. Starpoint toured extensively that year. The album sold over 600000 records and went “Gold” with Renee singing the hit single,”Object Of My Desire”. In the middle of the “Restless” tour, Renée was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It made it hard for Starpoint to continue touring. What is most encouraging about Renee is that she deals with this disease and all of the physical/mental problems it causes, with strength and grace. Lillo Thomas. (born 1961, Brooklyn, New York, United States), is an American former Olympic-qualifying athlete and later a soul musician. He reached the peak of his success as a recording artist in the 1980s. His most famous songs include “Sexy Girl” and “I’m in Love.” Prior to his recording career he was on the US track and field team. As an athlete he set the world record for the 200 meters at the age of sixteen.He qualified for the 1984 Olympics, however he was unable to attend after being involved in a car accident in Brazil. Thomas left athletics behind for music, and toured with comedian Eddie Murphy in 1985. He became a successful session vocalist, doing vocals on releases by Evelyn “Champagne” King, Kashif, James Ingram, George Benson, and Melba Moore, among others, while also writing “Mind Up Tonight” for Moore. Thomas released his first album in 1983. His albums were produced by Kashif and Paul Laurence Jones III. He landed his own solo recording contract with Capitol Records, and began getting singles on the charts. “Your Love’s Got a Hold on Me” was his first Top 20 R&B single in 1984, and Thomas enjoyed his biggest year in 1987 with three Top Ten R&B hits. “I’m in Love” reached number two and remains his most successful single.
