Most musicians (since they aren’t signed to record labels) sell their music without the help of corporations. You can do this quite easily… there are sites that allow you to build your own store, sell directly to fans, and keep more of your profits. You can build your own PayPal store, but if you want the MP3s to send to the customer automatically, it’s quite complicated. There are sites that set this up for you for free.

One example is: www.myfavoriteband.com.
You can upload and sell MP3s along with CDs, shirts, and any other merch that you already have. It’s free to set up your store, you can post an unlimited number of items, and the site doesn’t profit from your sales. The only money taken out of your sales is to cover PayPal’s minimal transaction fees (about 2.9% + 30 cents) for the sale–you will probably have to pay this if you were to build a store yourself, because credit card companies always have transaction fees. This method is better than iTunes and other large distribution companies, because they take a huge chunk of your profits (40%+).
