I am 22 and moved to NYC in December of ’07 to pursue my career in the music industry. I got offered a great internship at a record label that turned into a job at the label and their artist management company. I got laid off because of their economic issues. That was in October and since then I have been trying to find my footing and a new job in the industry.

NYC’s economy is dead and NOBODY is hiring. I have been offered jobs in LA but have turned them down because I have never thought about moving out there. Lately I have really been considering it. My lease is up in May and my boyfriend would move out to LA with me (he would make more $ $ out there since he is a DJ).

I have never been to CA before so I was thinking about flying out there in April to job hunt and see if LA is where I want to move or if I want to stay in NYC.

I feel like NYC is not the right city for me. I am more chill, love the beach, and go with the flow. I want to enjoy life and I feel like New Yorkers make life go so fast! Another thing is NYC is so expensive. The amount I pay a month for sharing a room with my boyfriend is the amount we could pay in LA and get our own apt together. I don’t think I can afford NYC anymore.

I guess if someone could tell me a little more about the differences between LA & NYC that would help a lot…

Suggestions?
Also What areas in LA are nice cheap safe places to live? I hear Silverlake is cool? I am not very familiar with the different areas at all.
